Having not received a court summons before, I would assume that this would have to be signed for by the person being summoned otherwise how could it be proved it was ever received?0 -

What utter horse sh*t:D:D0 -
According to an internet near me Germany and Canada now have reciprocal agreements with the UK on court debt judgments. However, I would surmise that your debt would be UK-bound. Personal debt seems to be very much contained within country boundaries. You'll be ok in my humble view!0

Play nicely kids! The OP is looking for advice. Take the morals out of the equation & lets look at the facts. Firstly YOU CAN'T BE ARRESTED for a civil unsecured debt. That is 100% the truth. Secondly...statute barred (meaning you can't be forced to pay the debt by the courts although you owe it still) is from the date of DEFAULT (generally accepted to be when you've missed 2 or3 agreed monthly payments-the 6 years start from this point)...the creditors have 6 years from this point to take you to court-after the 6 years you still owe the money but can't be forced to pay it by a court.
Studley1........why not go Bankrupt & THEN leave the country? Granted you will need £600 to do it (or £450 if you're on benefits-you can claim the court fee of £150 back from the court). If you have less disposable income on paper than £20 PCM the then you pay nothing & BR is over in 1 year max. If you have £20+ you will pay this to the Official receiver (who oversees the bankruptcy) for 3 years. If you have no assests (like property/expensive cars, etc) this would be a straightforward way to end the problem-lasting one year or 3 years if you have surplus of £20PCM.
There ARE reciprocal agreements all over the world & ulness you live in a cave (!) they WILL find you at some stage. If your name/address/D.OB. (who's to say a tracing agency abroad has not got a contact at the border control/passport office??) is registered anywhere YOU CAN be found.
I appreciate you're Pi***d off with the debt but at least this way it'd be wiped out?
Or...the other way is a DRO. IF you're working....get the sack (!). If you're on benefits & can stay at the same status financially for 12 months & have £50 maximum surplus income & car is worth less than a grand, no assets over £300 then the DRO ( a form of bankruptcy) would be a cheaper way to do it-£90 fee (can be paid in installments) BUT if your income goes over £50 a month during the 12 monnths the DRO will fail. Lots of info on this on this website. Hope thats been some help!0
