Boiler Advice

I live in a 2 bedroom terraced house currently rented...

i had some problems with my ideal classic boiler in that it constantly kept making a grinding noise whenever i turned the rad valves down past level 3,

the plumber came and has fitted new bulldog trv's which have done the trick massively.

anyway he reccomended that with this boiler i leave constantly switched on using the timer control pannel i have, he said this will allow the heat to flow through when requested by trv's

my question is though i see different responses everywhere i look at this but should i be leaving the boiler constantly on like this, i know the pilot light remains lit after the correct temp has been reached but still surely this will cause more problems than its worth, is it just best leaving it on my normal timer mode.

P.S. have no room thermostat but is one on the boiler at bottom, very old and dont think this works anymore either.

Thanks for any help or advice!!

Leave your ch on the timer as you did before.

One of your radiators should not have a TRV fitted to ensure that water still flows round the system when the TRVs are restricting the flow.

DO NOT leave on constant if you have no room stat fitted. your TRV's will not tell the pump to stop running when they all close and will not tell the boiler to go off either.
It will only reduce the life of the boiler if it is left standing at operating temperature for long periods of time.

The thermostat on the boiler only tells the PCB that the temperature INSIDE the boiler is up to a set point which will then shut the gas off untill it gets back below the set point.
  • The Plumber told me to leave the master one in hallway set to 3/4 on the tvr and the one in bathroom downstairs constantly on 5 so it lets the flow of water move around, ive gone back to the timer and much happier with it now, unfortunetly as someone said ^^^^ the flow of water is constant in the boiler where i have the tv etc so if its on 3 which it usually is then its quite loud unless i turn it down to 2 or put up to 4, win win situation really

If you are saying that all you radiators have TRV's then the installation is incorrect, on radiator should not have a TRV, usually the one in the bathroom.
