Second hand car question

  • Hi there,

Thanks for all of your comments and thoughts, I should clarify that I'm not really interested in a saloon car, a hatchback or a coupe is what I'm going for.
In regards to Kia, sorry but there is really zero street cred in a Kia and I do want something I am happy to say is mine. Not that I have anything against people that drive Kia's, but they're not for me.

    The car's I'm now considering:

    Honda Civic,
    Mazda 3,
    Citroen C4,
    Ford Focus,
    Vauxhall Corsa,
    Seat Ibiza,
    Renault Clio.

As I say, thank you for your comments :)

But your number one on your list was " Reliability ".

A Kia will almost certainly be more reliable than any Citroen.

And many others on his short list.
  • Fair point, maybe I'm too quick to poo-poo them
  • I'm not much help but just wanted to say I was in exactly the same position as you, I had had my 1999 Peugeot 206 and after 8 years of owning her pretty smoothly the last 12 months she was off the road more than on and cost me a fortune in repairs.

I sold her last month, with faults declared to a garage for £325 (1.1L had 130K on the clock)

I bought an '06 VW Golf 1.6 50K on the clock for £4500 (private and a lot of haggling by my OH). The difference in drive is amazing - wish I had got shot of the Peugeot much sooner!!

My work colleague has a Seat Leon which is very much like the Golf (he said they were made by the same company) and are very similar inside.

Or go bigger... Something like a Ford Mondeo or VX Vectra, plenty of 2007/2008 models for £3500. Spend the remaining £500 on the fractionally higher fuel consumption and enjoy all the toys that come as standard on these bigger cars.
