Boiler problem
The pressure in my boiler keeps dropping, and I have boiler cover with Scottish Power (same as PH Jones) so I called them.
They tell me that they can't get to the faulty part because the boiler has been fitted incorrectly, and as this is not their fault it is not covered.
The boiler was in the house when we bought it. I don't know for sure, but I'm fairly certain it was fitted under one of those subsidised or free heating schemes. This will be more than 4 years ago.

- Is there any way of finding who fitted it? Would Corgi or anybody have a record of work done at the property?
- If I could find out who fitted it incorrectly, is there any comeback after such a length of time?
- And lastly, we are a low-income family - are there any similar schemes for free / subsidised boilers still around, and would we qualify under such circumstances?

did they offer you a solution to making access to the part or offer a quote to upgrade the system?
why has it been fitted incorrectly? is it too close to an ubstruction or has the kitchen been fitted around it?
i assume the expansion vessel needs recharging and there is no access to the shreader valve on the top of the boiler?
unfortunatly you didnt need to report fitting a boiler a few years ago so unless the commisioning checklist has been completed with his name on and left in the property with the boiler manual it may be hard to find. Is there any stickers or labels on the boiler showing who fitted it? This may be an inhibitor label with a phone number or something. I havnt come across many boiler that are completly inaccessible - usually some of the kitchen just needs dismantling0 -
Don't SP like other suppliers insist on an inspection prior to them accepting cover?
If they inpected it and it was deemed suitable for cover, surely they are obliged to cover it?
Edit: Is this the agreement?

If so there is an initial inspection (and you should have been given a copy), and their only applicable exception clause seems to be if the error in installation is one which they "could not identify at the initial inspection (using reasonable skill and care)"
I'd be interested to know what this was if they are saying the boiler was sited incorrectly. I would have thought anyone with reasonable skill and care would be able to spot that a mile off."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

some contracts are OD work so require no inspection -0 -
I would suggest that you obtain the installation and servicing manual for said boiler (try manufs website) and compare the installtion clearances with those which exist on site.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
