Microsoft Security Essentials Alert hoax

Yesterday I acquired this virus, which hijacked any attempt to run windows programmes (except explorer and Panda). So I rebooted in safemode and performed a system restore back to the 16th February. At the moment it seems to be OK. I have updated AVG and run this.

What I can't understand is why my Panda virus didn't pick it up, and the useless windows firewall failed again. Malwarebytes seemed to pick up something in safemode but didn't fix it.

Are you saying you are running AVG and Panda antivirus at the same time? If so, don't - use one or the other, preferably something better than AVG. Two anti virus programs running at the same time will cause problems and conflicts.

Do you use IE as your browser? Is it set to allow active content by default, or only for sites in your Trusted list?

You need to run Malwarebytes from your desktop, it is important to update Malwarebytes first before running a full scan.

fwor I Can't find that one.

I have Java set to high safety rather than disable for 'Internet' in the security options. I think it got in through a java program.

In the restricted zone the slider is set to highest level. However I was just browsing using Google at the time

I will do the malwarebytes again.
