Time limit for insurance repairs

Options
Hi All,

I'm new to this board, normaly on the dfw board, I'm after a bit of info please.

We had our car stolen on the 24/8, it was recovered 3 weeks later on the 7/9, the insurance picked it up from depot a week on 15/9.
Our car was taken to an authorised garage by the insurance company and we went to see it on the 4/10 to confirm all ok with what they had said.

We are still waiting today for the car to be done and have been told we wont get it back until the 1st week in december, the policy my partner was put on does not include courtesy car cover and so we have been down a car since it was stolen, the garage have said its taking so long as they have to wait for parts but nearly two months seems abit odd. We now have a problem as my car has gone caput and we no longer have a car to use. My question is are there any laws that state how long you can be resonably kept waiting for a repair etc, if we get the car back in the 1st week of december it will have been roughly 13 weeks that the garage have had it.

Do you think there is anything i can do??

Many thanks in advance,

Vics

None at all... at the end of the day if parts arent available then they arent available which isnt the fault of anyone other than your vehicle manufacturer.

If you dont believe them you could phone round a couple of other garages to see if they have the part or not. Alternatively you may be able to tell the garage you will accept a different brand of part fitted - there are many "white box" versions of parts which are much cheaper in cost than the branded ones but most insurers will not use them as standard as they are not a like for like replacement.
