Contact lenses & airport security.

I've worn contacts for years.

When the 10 x 100ml max bottles rule came out, I put my spare pair in my hold luggage & carried a dry case in my handbag, while wearing my lenses.

Now if my luggage had gone astray I would still have had my lenses in (that pair that I wore on the plane) & my case & could have picked up a new bottle of solution in resort.
I wouldn't have had my spare pair, but I would have had one pair.

Now I've changed to dailys. I can't take 30 individual lenses in fluid in my hand luggage (as I'm only allowed 10 bits of liquid) & should my luggage go missing I would only have my daily pair in.

How do others cope with this?

Think your confusing yourself a tad you can take your dailys with you as the overall amount of fluid does not exceed 1 litre, and they will easily fit in your little plastic bag

No metion of amount of items in the blurb:

Only limited quantities of liquids may be carried through airport security into the departure lounge. This includes bottled drinks, suntan lotion, fragrances, cosmetics and toiletries.
The following restrictions apply to all liquids, creams, gels, pastes and aerosols taken through security control:
    • Liquids may only be carried in containers holding 100ml or less.
    • They must be carried separately in a single bag which is:
      • Transparent, resealable and airtight
      • No larger than 20cm x 20cm (8in x 8in)
      • Able to close properly with all the items inside.
    • At security control, please ensure the plastic bag is removed from any hand luggage and placed in the tray with your other items in preparation for screening.
    • Liquids in containers over 100ml will not be permitted through security – please pack them in your hold baggage instead.

I knew each container could not be more than 100ml & I knew they had to go into a little plastic bag, somewhere I got the idea that you were also allowed only 10 containers max & that would only have been 5 days lenses.

    Thank you.

Each container is max 100ml, and the total max is 1 litre, so I think that's where you're getting 10 items from. But in actual fact you can have as many as you like as long as they're all under 100ml and the total is under 1 litre! :j

I carry through in my in hand luggage. I have never put them in the palstic bag and have never been stopped or challenged because of it, including flights to/from the US as well as many short haul and domestic flights.

Personally I cannot see what all the fuss is about relating to fluids! If you were part of a small group with a few pounds at your disposal and wanted to blow up a plane mid air as a suicide then it's not a problem. It is pretty simple to get enough liquid explosive through security and mix it before boarding a plane from the UK. It's not rocket science and if I can work out how to do it most people should be able to. If we were to worry about this then no one would ever fly again. Security is pretty much just a posturing exercise that makes people feel comfortbale but in reality would never stop a committed suicide bomber.

its all a knee jerk reaction from this:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8242479.stm

and you're right anyone who wants to undertake such actions will do so, without going into detail there are obvious flaws for example I can take a 1 ltr bottle airside which is empty and 10 of my mates can bring a 100mls each of fluids ehh voila a 1ltr bottle of stuff.

I've cited it many times but I still find it amusing I carry a knife and handcuffs airside and have brought guns, swords, god knows what in powder form airside but im not allowed to bring a bottle of coke through security when im at work

It's all pointless knee jerk reaction...................

............there was a case recently reported in the media where the captain of an airliner had his Swiss army knife confiscated - he pointed out that he has an axe clipped to the bulkhead behind his seat on the flight deck.

    Funny you say that.

In recent history I was going through a landside to airside security point and heard virtually the same argument with a pilot and security because he had some liquids.

    Argument went thus:

    Security: You cant have this
    Pilot: Why not
Security: Its the rules and the liquids in this could be used to blow up a plane
Pilot: If I wanted to blow up a plane I would do this (pushing forward on a pretend steering thingy, technical ehh?)

Oddly he still didnt get his liquids back

I didn't know that it was possible to get guns and swords in powder form.

    Do you just add water?
