Help with phone/broadband/tv package

I'm hoping that somenone can help with advice here.

Just now, I get this package from Sky. The problem is that the account is in my husband's name, although the direct debit is paid from my bank account since he left a year ago. This has been very frustrating for me, as, although I know his password, and so have been able to reduce the package, the bills have contined to be sent to him. This means that I am unable to check them and I don't know how much is going to be taken out of my account each month and there have been a number of issues with the amount taken. they have refused to send me the bills, even with his consent.

Matters have now come to a head with the most recent problems, and they have told us to both write in to have the ccount transferred to me, which we did. He has now received a letter saying that transfer is not possible, and that the account will have to be closed and a new one opened in my name. I am loathe to do this if there is a reasonable alternative.

Cable is not a possibility in our street. Does this mean that I could only get a freeview box, and I am correct that there is something I could get which operates like sky plus? Just now I pay about £50 per month to include free calls after 7 and at the weekend, tv and broadband. Are there any better packages I could get? I'm not sure what kind of broadband we have, but do know that I couldn't downgrade that, as my 3 daughters have their computers on all the time and think that it is quite slow.

Thanks in advance for any advice

If your ex won't co-operate, just cancel the DD. As the account is in his name and is his responsibility, it will be him who is liable for any debt..
Or, since you know the password, get a male friend to call the and cancel in his name.
Can you not view the bills in the online account?
Once the Sky sub is cancelled, your Sky+ box will still receive all the Freesat from Sky channels, but the Sky+ functions will not work unless you pay £10 a month. Better to get a Freesat or Freeview PVR, which does exactly the same things. Freesat will work with your existing Sky dish and LNB, Freeview will require an external aerial.
Broadband is exchange specific, so do an exchange search on www.samknows.com, look for your LLU options and post the results for full advice. One of the LLU options will be the cheapest.

I can't access the online bills.
I did think about just cancelling the direct debit, but that would presunambly involve a period when I would be without phone etc until something knew was set up?
I think that freesat pvr would be the best way to go. Does this just involve a one off fee to buy it, and then no monthly bills? As I can't get cable, does that mean that BT are the only people who can provide a phone and broadband package?
Sorry to sound so dim but technology like this is the one area that my husband dealt with exclusively, and I really don't have a clue! I don't want to get stuck in the wrong kind of contract when I'm trying to watch every penny

Yes, if you cancel the DD then eventually the services will be cut off.
You can't just change the name on the account, a new one must be opened in your name, or the old account closed.
Freesat PVR is just a box swap, no ongoing bills, just the initial cost. If you already have Sky+, then you already have the twin feed required for Freesat PVR. I would suggest you look at the Humax Foxsat HDR box.
No, there are hundreds of possible phone/broadband providers other than BT, why is why I suggested you consult samknows to see what your LLU options are.

John Lewis have this http://www.johnlewis.com/230480023/Product.aspx?s_kenid=3c771e57-39df-6909-eb20-000020fe5a6e&s_kwcid=paidsearch for £129.95 - is thtis what you mean?
Does it matter that I don't have an HD TV?
Would I still have to get them to install it, or do you mean that as the sky box is there it is just a case of swapping the boxes over?

No, that is just a Freesat receiver, you need the HDR version which has the twin tuners. Check Richer Sounds for this.

Without an HD TV, it will work but of course you won't be able to display the HD channels.
It's self install, just a box swap as I said before.
