Getting to the Excel Centre in London

Hi guys,

Am hoping you can help as me and the mrs are off to the Excel centre tomorrow for a baby show and have no idea how to get there.

We're be starting our train journey in Gillingham, Kent.

Any ideas where is best to get the train to and what changes we need to make? What tubes or DLR etc...

Some journey planners are saying woolwich arsenal and then dlr, some are saying canon street to london bridge then dlr even though as far as i know the train will pass through london bridge anyway, so why not get off there :S

Thanks.

So simple - get off at London Bridge, northern line to Bank and then DLR to Beckton (expect to do some walkng at Bank station). Your end point is Custom House.

    Enjoy!

If you go via London Bridge, don't take the Northern line to Bank (sorry VfM4meplse!) - instead take the Jubilee line eastbound to Canning Town, and change there onto the DLR - you'd want to get on a DLR train heading to Beckton, and get off after two stops at Custom House (for the Excel centre). This is the choice route as the interchange at Canning Town from the Jubilee line to the DLR is very easy, as it just involves going up one short escalator with basically no walking at all (the whole station is above ground, though worry not as it's all covered too) - whilst the interchange at Bank is rather more convoluted.

Don't worry about timetables on the DLR - it's much like the Tube, the trains are very frequent. Just look at a train journey planner and decide whether you want to go to Woolwich Arsenal (on the stopping trains) or London Bridge (on the fast trains) - after having a very quick glance, from Gillingham it looks like it'd take roughly about the same amount of time to get to either London Bridge or Woolwich Arsenal.

Canning town is the closest tube station to ExCel

You can get a bus straight outside the tube station to ExCel itself

I done special contract work for ExCel last year driving a bendy bus between Canning Town tube station and Excel and it's no more than 5 mins on a bus

Or just get the DLR as it stops right outside ExCel

I was at the set up at Excel yesterday and it looks good, i'm sure you'll enjoy yourself.

As others have posted, Custom House on the DLR is right outside Excel

P.S Wear comfortable shows, as excel is a big place so there is plenty of walking
