Scanner Not Working...aaargh!

Evening all!

I got a scanner from a man on freecycle, he had no instructions but gave me the software disc to install it.

I have installed everything on the disc and the scanner works fine, picks up photo on preview etc, but on the test page after i have scanned it is just a black page with a few white dots on!

Have I installed it wrong? What could be the problem?

might be worth trying it out with a different lead (i presume it's a USB) if you can borrow one ?
does the light come on when it's scanning ?

yes the light comes on when it's scanning, and it actually shows the picture i'm scanning on the preview page but not when run actual scan...it's weird, do you mean to use just another usb lead?

What make and model of scanner is it?

It might be worth going to the manufacturers website and downloading the latest software/drivers from there in case it is the software off the disc that is the problem.

Since you can see the preview image, my guess would be that it is more likely to be a software problem than anything hardware related.

Just had a quick look and it looks like Compeye (the company who made this scanner) doesn't exist any more but the drivers are still available. Just Google the make and model.

i have downloaded it but i now have another problem it is saying that the parameter is incorrect! what is this?!
