Thanks hear-hear, I've requested them but the hospital are being very picky about giving me them! They said that bluetooth is incompatible with a pacemaker when I know it's not. I can't use an aid that will let me hear the phone because of the pacemaker and I use the phone for work so ideally would like the bluetooth aids and a phone that works with them but my local health board are just messing me about.

At the moment despite being assessed as needing hearing aids I don't have any as they keep arguing over which aids I can have that wont cost them too much.
  • GlasweJen,

A thought. Would you write to Siemens (if that is the supplier used by your PCT) and ask them to confirm that the Siemens Impact does not interfere with pacemakers ? With a positive reply, you should be able to present this to your audiologist.

I know you shouldn't have to do this - the audiology dept should be doing it for you. But if it achieves a good result for you, then it will have been worth it .

I would be surprised if siemens would do this - simply from a liability POV.
You'd need to ask the makers of the pacemaker.

I've already asked Medtronic if the kappa is compatible with bluetooth hearing aids and they said that these would probably be the best aids to use as the technology in them is similar to the technology in the pacemaker that allows them to read it and change the settings.

Audiology know this but because I can't use a telecoil aid they don't think I'll be able to use any aid that allows me to use the phone. It's very frustrating.
