I have read a lot of threads regarding Santander and their lack of customer service. I had enough trouble with Abbey and left them as soon as possible.

I actually experienced their total lack of reality today.

Went into a local Santander branch today to pay a cheque into my mum's account. Whilst there I asked if she could have a new cheque book sent out. Not like my Natwest account where I get sent a new cheque book when I get near the end of the one I am using.

No, Santander require you to call and request another cheque book. It seems my mum has to call them to request another cheque book, (bearing in mind the last time she called them she couldn't understand a word the ' service agent' was saying). Now, I am not trying to get my mums details etc just asking for a cheque book to be sent out, which will go to her address.

She has £35k in her accounts with these cowboys, and the teller suggested she had an account review as her existing account pays poor interest, and yet they make the simple things so awkward..why?

Methinks a change of bank is in order

sorry all, rant over

Probably to make sure that someone doesn't steal it

I wouldn't give you a cheque book for another account either, even if she was your mum, they dont't have a magic trust-o-meter to determine if your a good son who won't rob her savings.

It is getting posted out though, the person asking for it will not get it there and then. It goes to the address they have on file.

You haven't read the thread properly, have you?

He didn't ask for them to give him a cheque book. but them to send a cheque book, to the address which they would presumably have on their records.

Just another example of bureaucracy gone mad, making life harder for the elderly, infirm, and those relatives trying to help out!

Ballcocks. OP was requesting that a cheque book be sent out to the registered address on the account. If he was a scammer, then how much more of an effort would it take him to recruit a female accomplice to call the bank and make the same request?
  • Or go to his mums house knowing the cheque book was arriving and pinching it. Not unheard of for these days is it? It may be a pain but its for the good of the account holder at the end of the day.

I'm not sure why you needed to include that in your post, it doesn't matter if someone have 35p, 35k or 35 million in their account they are still awkward. After all what's to stop you ringing up pretending to be your mum and asking for the cheque book to be sent out. In fact i'm pretty sure that last time I needed a cheque book for my account I phoned them and it was automated anyway so I never got to speak to anyone.

I've gone from being a very happy Alliance and Leicester customer to hating Santander and going to close my accounts with them.

I had her cheque guarantee card to pay the cheque in with, and as said I asked for the cheque book to be sent. I wasn't asking to be handed one

I could, if I was that way inclined, probably take her money. If I asked she would probably let me have it.

All I wanted was a bit of service. She had tried phoning for a book, but as I said she had trouble understanding what the other person was saying.

Why I put the amount of money in her account was the teller suggested she had an account review - forgot to finish the sentence..:o)
