As soon as you sign off JSA will stop as of the date you sign off, although you may be entitled to a Job Grant of up to £250 and some assistance with other costs.

If you are in serious difficulties and there may be a risk to your health as a result of the lack of money/resources you have, you may be eligible to receive a Social Fund crisis loan on the grounds of Alignment to Wages, however these loans are only able to cover limited expenses and aren't much good for travel to work, household bills, rent etc.
  • you can get a run on of HB and CTB for (i think) 4 weeks
  • You should receive a 4 week roll on for your Housing Benefit if you are/were on Income based JSA. The £250 (for single parents-£100 for single person) will usually be in your bank account 7 days after your claim has been closed down. You can also apply for a payment from the Advisors Discretionary Fund, this could cover any costs that are associated with going back to work i.e. smart clothes, bus pass etc. A bit of advice though if you haven't already stopped your claim, ask for financial help from the Advisors Discretionary Fund before they do, otherwise they will say you have to have a claim open to make a claim from this fund. They don't make it public knowledge that this fund exists really, unless you ask about it. So if you are about to start work and sign off benefits, make sure you ask for help first.

only if you have been claiming for 26 weeks without a break.
  • you will get the final payment of jsa from the day after you last signed up to the day before you started work.(but only if you let the jobcentre know you have started work) You may still get HB/CTB on income grounds so let the council know and give them a payslip when you have one
