I'd go for the Panasonic. Bigger screen, Freesat tuner built in - if that's relevant. Uses slightly more electricity than the Sony, but not a lot. Both brands have a good reputation, but I always feel that you're paying a bit more for the name with Sony.

When calibrated, the panasonic uses approx 80 watts more than the sony

  • I'd go for the panasonic considered buying one before I went for the 42" v20 last week it's a brilliant tv Paid £850 from the panny shop with 5year warrenty but seen them on amazon for just over 800. Saying that from what I've read there not much between the g20 and v20.

Depends if you want an LCD or a Plasma. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. It could be down to your viewing habits or even where the tv is placed in a room. The Panny has a glass screen, and although has been treated with an anti-glare surface it still quite reflective. The Sony will perform better during the day in bright ambient light, the Panny will tend to 'lift' the blacks depending on how much light hits the screen. At night, under controlled lighting conditions, the Panny will come into it's own (as will most plasmas) with true deep blacks and fantastic contrast. Both have Freeview HD tuners, the Panny also has a Freesat HD tuner - useful if you already have a satellite dish. Both are rated very highly with both consumers and professionals so which ever one you buy I think you would have made a good purchase. One thing to note if you buy the Panasonic from an official Panasonic retailer in store you can get an official Panasonic 5 year warranty. If you are a member, I think Costco have a good deal.
