My brother has just had a call from "TV Solutions" saying he had noticed that their SKY warranty had run out and he would be willing to cover both boxes and the Sky Dish for £80 and pushed like mad for his bank details.
He supplied a phone Number to phone and he said they could check them out first 0800 804 6645.
192.com gives a residential address in Bognor Regis.
They haven't filed a company credit report and seem rather dodgy.
Anyone ever heard of them?
He refused to part with cash and the character got a little rude, BTW.

Sounds like a scam to me, but I could be wrong.0

Scammers at it again, the only Sky approved scheme is run by Domestic and General. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Tell him (brother) to register with TPS(telephone preference service), then get as much detail as possible, then tell the rude guy on the phone to check if he is on the register, and if they have not checked report them, most times they say "oh we'll remove you from our list".
At this point tell them no you can't remove me from the TPS database , but I will be reporting your shyster company to TPS and OFCom.
Sadly most cold callers eg "Oh I work with Microsoft and your PC has a virus" or "Congratulations you have won a All expenses trip to Tristan da Cunha" are outside the UK and usually use IP phone services , nobody can legislate for those.
OH and don't google for TPS cos there are also shysters on the Web that say yes of course that is £9.99 or whatever tell him to go here -

If the guy from tv solutions was genuine then he wouldnt get rude imo with a potential customer0

And a quick trip to Fleabay can get a new box for less than the "warranty".

Hi everyone , just read with interest this thread re : the number 08008046645 and TV solutions .
This company called my Dad this week and got £120 from him via the same sort of dialogue mentioned above . As his policy is due for renewal soon (with SKY) he gave his details and that was that . When he told me I was suspicious and came across this thread , called the number which is never answered by the way ,and advised him to contact his bank urgently ,which he has now done . HSBC have been great and are arranging for the card details to be changed and their fraud dept are invetsigating too , just hoping he can get his money back .
Tracing the number , it seems its an un-allocated number according to BT - so not in regular use . So just wondering if anyone has any further details about this company /phone number or indeed any experience of being conned in this way - I feel so angry as Dad cannot afford to lose this money , at 83 every penny counts . Thanks . :mad:0 -
This type of scam was dissected on the telly a couple of weeks ago - prog now gone from iPlayer it seems, but here's the transcript summary of a similar 2009 story: BBC Watchdog: TV repair company on the blink - Consumer Forum
[ Edit ] found it - Rogue Traders a couple of weeks ago, Linky: Television Aerials: A frosty reception0
