Help with Excel formula

Hi I am currently working on an Excel spreadsheet and have become stuck with working out a formula.

Lets say I have a value in A1(e.g 200) I would like to subtract the value in the following cells from it C1(20),E1(50),G1(80),I1(40) and the balance to go in cell B1 (10)

How do I do this, if it is possible?

Thanks in advance:)

    In cell B1 put:

    =A1-C1-E1-G1-I1

    In cell B1:
    =A1-SUM(C1:I1)

That will include the cells in columns D,F and H. To exclude them:
    =A1-(C1+E1+G1+I1)

  • You could of course put the cursor in the target cell and type = then click on the first cell you want to use (you will see what is happening in the bar above the spreadsheet) then enter + or - or / or * then click on the next cell then type +-/* etc

So click on B1, type = then click on A1 (bar says =A1) type - now click on C1 (=A1-C1) type - then click on E1 (=A1-C1-E1) and you can work the rest out from there.
