Hi. Not sure if this the right place to post to, but here goes anyway.
I very recently had a new boiler installed by British Gas, Now the thing is that the radiators are old though they were flushed and they sure pump out the heat, but what i am bothered about is that a friend of mine who is a fully qualified plumber has told me that they should have fitted thermostats on all but one of my 7 radiators and that they have broken building regs in not fitting them, so (A) what do i do, and (B) is my home safe.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Yes your house is safe!

On new building it is mandatory that they fit TRVs(Thermostatic Radiator Valves) to all but one radiator(in the room where you have the wall thermostat)

I am pretty certain that this is not mandatory where there is a boiler exchange. However I am very surprised that BG didn't suggest that they fit TRVs - they are not that expensive.

TRVs simply control the air temperature in each room. The upper part turns and you can set the temperature you require on the dial - say 20C - when the temperature in the room reaches that temperature, the TRV cuts of the supply of water automatically to the radiator and and the room will slowly start to cool. When it drops to, say, 19C the TRV opens and hot water enters the radiator.

The advantage is that you can set the temperature you require in individual rooms - from OFF up to max.

I would contact BG and ask why they didn't fit TRVs and get a quote.

    Good evening:

It is good practice to fit TRVs (among other items....did BG not give you the option?) More here.

  • Thanks for putting my mind at ease. At least i know im safe

And no BG did not give the option to have them fitted. But if there as cheap as you say then i will get some and have them fitted by a local plumber
