Hi All
A few years ago a friend and i decided to invest in property in Bulgaria, which has basicaly gone tits up. The storey of how is depressing so i wont bore you with the facts.
Any way we are now in the process of court action and need to collect evidence of where money has been paid.
Two installments for the apartment were paid by cheque, which the bank has kindly given us copys of when they cleared. On these copys the information contains the banks sort code of where it was paid in which was a barclys bank. It does not however contain the account number to which it was paid into. This is a problem as the courts need to know the account number. The bank says that it cannot get the account number as they dont have that information.
My question is were can i get the account number of where it cleared into?
Should i ask barcleys bank?
I always assumed that cheques were a safe method of payment but if they cannot get basic information of where it cleared then i might as well given them cash!
Thanks for your help

The audit processing trail on the reverse of the cleared cheque should show both the Sort Code and Account Number? (if .... processed in the UK?)
If not .... ask your Bank (not Barclays) to do a trace on the payment. The data they receive in order to debit your account of the cheque value (its an electronic file) should show them the beneficiary account.
There's likely to be a small charge for the trace. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
