Hi im new

JRHartle
I am in a huge mess with loans and credit cards. Its been like this for years and im able to hold my own at the moment but i am hoping i can get some help.
I wont go into too much detail, but For now i am in around £40,000 debt. I have been for years with the situation not changing much month on month.
I contacted 'Spectrum' who were useless, lost many important documents in the post, and i started using 'Abacus'. Lots better, but then i was working away, not able to sort things and stopped using Abacus.
I would like to know a few basics first.
1 - what company similar to Abacus is suggested - i liked that i made one payment and they sorted it from there. I didnt mind paying a small fee, but a smaller one would be better.
2 - CAB - worth visiting? What can they do?
3 - PPI claims, since im in default with most, and CCJ with a couple, could i still claim? Also, i dont know my PPI policy numbers. I think i stand a best chance of winning with RBS and Egg so i will stick with them 2 for now.
4 - Bank charges - again default/CCJ - but HSBC and RBS - is it worth it? The defaults are for less then £1500 in each case.
Ill leave it there for now.
Regards
JR

1 - NONE!!! EVER!!!! Please stop using these cowboy companies who prey on people in debt! Instead use one of the free charities in my signature - they do not take a chunk of your monthly payment and it's not in their interest to keep you in debt. Most of these companies get paid a % of your monthly payment... so as long as you are in debt you pay THEM... can you see the irony in thinking that they are supposed to help you get out of debt?
2 - CAB, CCCS... any of the free debt charities can help you set up a DMP or look at what other options are available to you.
3 - Are you on about claiming on the policy or reclaiming unfairly sold policy payments? 2 very different things...
4 - Bank charges... how much are the charges? Will admit I'm not 100% up on where the issue is in the courts at present but it all also depends on if your charges were actually unfair or not...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Thanks for your help.
Yes, i meant a free one not a paid one. Sorry i didnt make that clear.
I was meaning claiming mis-sold PPI payments, not making a claim using the PPI.
I may consider leaving the bank charges, as i would need to go back a long way, and i doubt they would pay out.0 -
Always worth reclaiming the PPI but ONLY if you think it's been missold... There is a whole forum on here dedicated to that so have a wander over and take a look at the threads and also Martins article on PPI mis-sellingDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

hi, i must admit i felt the same as you a year ago, so glad for help i didnt mind paying a fee, so got into a dmp with a paying company, and wasted over 500 quid this year on them and not much more on my debts, when there are companys out there who do it free like national debtline. as for egg they have been great with me, frooze my interest, when i told them im changing from a paying dmp to a free one they said ok, or you can just pay us the agreed directly. i feel so angry letting these debt companys taking avantage of our weakness, and i wish you good luck, im new on here and will be posting soon also, kind regards0
