can i get a refund on a pre-paid card

A friend rented a flat and had to leave before her tenancy expired. She paid gas and electric by pre-paid card and put quite a bit of money onto the cards. Having left the flat early and not used any gas or electric can she get a refund?

I presume the money is actually credit on the meter and not still on the payment card. She needs to tell her supplier that she is moving out and what the meter readings are and that there is credit on the meter. As she is renting the LL will normally also note the readings to avoid any disputes. They will then close her account and refund any excess paid.
