Renewed Halifax Student Overdraft - what do I do with this funny letter?

Hi,

I recently got a letter from Halifax telling me that my OD is set to expire 26 Feb, and if I'd like to have it extended, I'll have to go to a branch or call telephone banking. Nothing unusual, used to do this every year.

So went in to a branch at 4.45pm on Friday. The advisor directed me to use their telephone system to call telephone banking, which I did. The overdraft people spoke to the underwriters, who asked for a proof of student status. Since I came well prepared, the overdraft people spoke to the branch people, asked them to fax my student status confirmation over. By then, it was 5.15pm, the branch staff told me to call the telephone banking on Monday to confirm everything (as underwriters finish work at 5pm).

I called Telebanking on Saturday (asI know the underwriters work on a Saturday too), and the Overdraft people spoke to the underwriters, and confirmed it has been renewed, there will be a letter in the post etc.

Today, I received two letters surprisingly. First one was confirmation that my OD has been renewed, dated Saturday.

Second one was dated Monday, and it says "Your application for a bank account has been successful...." and the funny thing was, the Roll Number, Account Number and Sort Code are exactly the same, i.e. the same account that I have been discussing! Along with that was a letter for me to sign, and some T&C booklet... as if I had just applied for a new account.

I assume the 2nd letter was a mistake? Do I need to do anything or just ignore it?

Thanks!

Does it def say its a student overdraft?not unless they have changed your account to an interest paying account?other than that its probably just a t&c reminder. if your still unsure you could always call to juat confirm.
  • I've only ever had the renewal confirmation, I suppose the 2nd letter could be due to their new systems but I would phone up and check that everything is as it should be.
  • this seems an extremely odd process to go through just to renew an overdraft. With mine they just write me a letter automatically each year to confirm it's been renewed. But mine is not a student account, just a current account. Is that why?
