High Value Contents Insurance

Hi

Can anyone recommend a home contents policy that covers high value items away from home over the limits most seem to have of £12,750. I need £21,000 of high value item away from home cover and its proving hard to find a policy.

Thanks. :j

You need to speak to a local broker (Don't us Swintons), ask for a quote with Chubb, Oak or Hiscox.

The above companies only deal through brokers in affluent areas, you can find a broker they deal with from each of the Insurers websites
  • I think Hiscox http://www.hiscox.co.uk/personal-and-home/home-insurance might be able to help. I remember seeing them advertising large amount policies some time back.
  • Give Marks and Spencer Insurance a try - I'm with them and have a huge amount of away from home cover.

What are the items you want to take away at that value? Jewellery? Or is it just a large family with lots of smaller items?

High net worth market certainly a good way to go, especialy if it is high value items - da's advise is good. You can also try Hiscox direct, Home and Legacy, John Lewis's top cover level which is underwritten by Sterling.

Local independent brokers are definatly a good port of call as they will give you some good advise hopefully and explain the various terms/policies to you.

Avoid the M&S product - it is though BGL I beleive who don't have a very good rep for customer service. It also is a mass market product not a high limit one.

I'm with Hiscox and they cover all your possessions away from home.
    Single item limit is £15K.

    I didn't go through a broker I did it on-line.
I did an itinerary and went round my house listing everything.
I didn't do every item individually so cd collection is one item and clothes are listed as one item.
The only thing I have itemised is jewelry.

It really is best to walk round the house room by room otherwise you'll miss the less obvious stuff like mirrors, pictures, xmas decorations, water softener, makeup, wedding photos etc.

You may find that you need to have an alarm and also that you have to ahve it annually serviced if you have high value.
