Can you get sacked for being off sick 3 times in a year

My husband does not abuse the system if he is off it is for a genuine reason. I repeat having a past record of absence was for hospital stays with our son. Then if i must go back further because he was involved in an accident on the way to work. He takes sick time off when he is sick and for no other reason. In fact if he had in fact lied and said he had flu instead of me we probably wouldn't be in this situation and he'd only be getting deciplined for the sickness! He is honest with them but it seems to mean nothing to these companies.
The meeting was cancelled by the union as i am sure you would agree being given 3 hours notice isn't acceptable in law.
It is still to be arranged. I assume for next week.0 -
well loads of advice been given please remember if the TU Rep representing your husband hasn't done a good job to press you have the right to request another rep does it and even a senior official.
Demand the full absent management policy, family friendly policy and i note someone has been kind enough to put the link up for parental leave.
Expired warnings cannot be used against him and as I said they should of reviewed the warning on expiry.
I still think this a procedural case and thats how you will win your case and hubby keeps his job. If policy has not been adhered to then an ET would have a field day.
The tu reps must have the policies if not I would question how they do their jobs!!!

I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that there are millions of people out of work, some of whom are desperately looking for work.
There are also apparently millions of workers on part time contracts looking for full time work. Oh and I think some people are a bit !!!!!! with their current job.
I'll bet some of them will even turn up every day.0 -

your husbands employer, who knows him and his attitude to work considerably better than you, obviously disagree's. and judging by his disaplinary record, have done for some time.
maybe its time to listen to another opinion than that of your husband, who is obviously going to say they are picking on him/discrimination/boss hates me/bob from accounts has longer than me off/that isn't how they used to do it.
i honestly hope that this does not turn out to be a dismissal case and that this is a rocket to improve his attendance record. you never know, this may be the making of the man.0 -
just to update this-the meeting took place with higher management and no futher action was taken. They agreed that the migraines shouldn't 'count' and agreed the 2 days absence was for 'emergency dependant leave' which left 1 period on sick. Not even a verbal warning, which is great but a needless amount of stress!
He has now switched teams too and getting on with his new boss great, he's even been told he's the best worker he has on his team by said boss. So from one extreme to the other!0 -

Let's hope he can go a few months with no more dramas...The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
