Can you get sacked for being off sick 3 times in a year

This involves DH he has been pulled in for a disciplinery (sp) and then as his manger said it was too serious for him to deal with it has been passed onto top management. DH is getting stressed about loosing his job.
He is currently on no verbal/written warnings and is being called in for
2 x3day migraines which they know he suffers from.
1 period on sickness/gastro which lated 4 days
1 unauthorised absence for looking after the kids when i had flu 2days.
His past records are bing refered to and they are dragging up written warnings that were issued for a 6mth period that have lapsed long ago. I thought they were wiped from your record?
If they do indeed drag up past years he has improved alot with his attendance and can show that.
All i really want to know is can they bring up warnings that have lapsed and can he go from no warnings to being sacked?
They keep aranging meetings with only 24hrs notice so dh can't get a union rep in with him, this has happened twice now after a series of other mix ups on their part.
edit to make it clearer-I don't think i have been clear in my opening op, he rang in every day that i was ill to update work he didn't just 'not show up'
His work are calling it an 'unauthorised unpaid absence' even though they had no problem on the phone and said it was fine.

its a lot of time off, he needs a union rep in with him, he'll be getting a warning.0

I wouldn't expect he has anything to worry about regarding the periods of illness, but taking a week of unauthorised leave would be something any company would take very seriously.0

has he had warnings for attendance in the past?
I was sacked by tesco for being ill !!0 -
Which of the mentioned sickness/UA has caused the disciplinary to happen now? the UA is definately the one i would of thought that will cause problems, you mention his attendance has got better how bad what it previous to the year mentioned? and what is the timescale to the illnesses/UA mentioned? you mention in a year but have they all been recently within the year? Although a while ago managers tend to remember any periods where sickness was a problem the second the same starts happening again.0

im curious to know why, if your off with the flu, he needs to be as well...
i would recommend he takes a long look at his work ethic, and stop looking for excuses to be off.0 -

i did say to look after the kidsi usually muddle on with looking after them when ill but i had flu and can't expect a new baby and 2 older children to look after themselves!
and i find your comments harsh, he spends 3 days in bed with a migraine and has never taken time off for the sake of it.0 -
well then, if thats how you deal with something as simple as the flu, you had better get used to a life on benefits. because your hubbs will be out of work very soon,0

At my place of work 10 days of illness over a 12 month period will trigger a review by a manager.
Can't advise on the dragging up past records though.0 -

they are supposed to be harsh, excessive time off sick will result in only 1 thing, and you really must appreciate the requirement for hubby to actually attend work.
sickness should be a rare thing, it sounds like its becoming a habit though.0 -
Those are bad migraines he's been having. What medication is he on for them? Migraines are terrible, but I have medication which keeps them under control. By the way, I understood from my Union Rep that migraines are a 'disability' and you cannot be sacked for having them.
(PS and I agree with people who think he's not showing enthusiasm for keeping his job).0
