Who is responsible for connecting tails to meter?
Just had night storage heating fitted. My sparky told me to ask the supplier to fit the tails to the meter as he is not allowed. Ring supplier, they say it is not their job, it is private electrician's job.
How am I supposed to get heating?! Who is wrong and who is right, and what can I do to convince one of them to wire in the bloomin' cables?!

If a seal needs to be broken then it's obviously down to the supplier to do.
If it can be done without breaking a security seal, then I don't see why the spark can't do it."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Do you have a dual rate meter? e.g. Economy 7
If not you will need to get your supplier to fit one anyway, as running storage heaters on standard rate is a non starter! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
yep, economy 7 meter is already installed. not sure if they would have to break any seals - bit clueless about this stuff (as you can tell)0

Are you speaking to the people who bill you for electricity, or the local network operator?
Your electrician should leave tails dangling (or preferably use an isolator eg ) which the network operator will connect to the meter, seal the meter and pass the readings to the billing people.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
You need to speak to the supplier, not the DNO, so whoever your paying your money to is the one to talk to. If they are also the DNO then all the better.
I'm assuming that this is the first time that storage heaters have been fitted, if you already have some the consumer unit will already be connected to the meter.
I would have thought the sparky doing the job would know that....make sure he comes back to check they work OK!0 -
Correct, you need to badger your supplier who will in turn get their designated meter operator to legally connect if you do not have an isolator already installed. Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help
