Is the market really *that* slow at this time of year?

My house has been on the market for almost two weeks now ~ no viewings?
Is the market really that slow in the run up to Christmas or am I doing something really wrong?
TIA

Nice house Ms Piggy, well presented.
It really is slow at this time of year, we had our house on the market this time last year and had no viewings from October until January. In January we sold very close to asking price (although it fell through at the 11th hour), so I wouldn't think about lowering your asking price until Feb unless you're in a massive rush.Addicted to Facebook

Your house looks lovely. I really love the back garden. I am about to move to a house with LOADS of grass (which I hate!) and I don't even have a lawnmower. You have just given me some inspiration for the new back garden when I can afford to do it!
I don't know what the market is like in your area but I know things up here move quite fast at any time of the year. Get in touch with the estate agent and find out what the interest has been like, has it been in the local papers, how many copies of details they have given out/sent out etc. Hopefully if you give them a nudge they might get moving.
It is the time of year where people are a bit reluctant to start looking but be patient, I am sure it will get snapped up.
PS - I think you are asking a very fair price for a house in such excellent condition. Good luck. x"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

I'm in no rush, although the sooner the better obviously. It's no upward chain either, so that will (hopefully) make it more attractive.
I've signed a sole agency for 12 weeks, so that'll take me to Feb anyway.0 -
forgive me as I know nothing about the area, and haven't looked at the other properties but what makes your property £10k-25k more attractive than the others on here:

the last house sold down your street was for £84K and highest price paid for a house on your street was £90k back in 2005 - you're house is 20% higher in price. I know nothing about the other houses or how yours compares, but use a site like nethouseprices.com to see if your valuation is true0

The area ~ it's only round the corner, but it makes a difference, honest!
Most of the houses on the street are two up two downs with a smaller kitchen and downstairs bathroom. Mine has a larger extended kitchen and a third bedroom and upstairs bathroom.stevie_wonder wrote:the last house sold down your street was for £84K and highest price paid for a house on your street was £90k back in 2005 - you're house is 20% higher in price. The two bed on James Ave is the next road along: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/action/publicsite.PropertySearch

sounds like you deserve the uplift in price then - is there a demand for 3 bed houses in the area? Or are 2 beds more popular then?0

Jeez, 115K for a terrace in Whitley Bay!
Potty prices. Still, if that's what the agent thinks they can get for it...
And despite reports of a "soaring" or "booming" market, that's only in certain areas - London and N Ireland, so elsewhere it can be v patchy, especially at this time of year.
I'm surprised you haven't had some interest as it's presumably a low end property.
Maybe take it off and try again in Feb. It's an odd time to want to move - just before Xmas too.0 -
If my friends experience is anything to go by the market is slow.
Very few viewers, which eventually led to one verbal offer, then almost confirmed and last minute pull out. So now house back on the market.
They are now poorer but no wiser.
Good luck with your saleWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
