smile don't now have a minimum funding limit - it's just a case of pay in your salary/pension or other regular payment and they give you the account (subject to the usual checks of course

Got a reply from a message I sent smile yesterday querying their position on charging:
Hello Mr XXXX
We have no plans to remove free banking services from our non-packaged accounts. We're always keeping a close eye on the changing market environment, as it would be irresponsible if we didn't. When considering our position in the future, we'll ensure that the needs of our customers are fully taken into account. That way, our award winning customer services won't be compromised, even if the market changes.
