Hotmail q - how can this happen?

Haven't experienced this before but don't really want to again. lol.

My daughter is in the living room on her netbook, she's logged into hotmail/msn and is talking to her friend.

I'm in another room on the main pc and I opened Hotmail so I could sign in and check my emails but the sign in page didn't open, it opened at my daughter's hotmail page (real time) so I could see her continuing conversation on msn.

She's only 11 so I don't (yet ? ;)) feel the need to spy on her so I closed the page down but I don't fancy everyone else in the house being able to read my private emails if this happens when I'm logged in one day.

I did think she hadn't logged out last time she was on the main pc, but that was last night and people have been on it since then so I don't think that's the case.

  • I encountered a similar situation last night where my partners daughter had left herself logged into facebook on our laptop even though she'd used it a couple of days before.

Tempting though it was to update her status with something humrrous I just logged her out as normal! :)

Sounds like a wee Hotmail glitch then. Not the end of the world if it's within your own home but if there is a glitch and people use internet cafes etc then I could see this causing all sorts of issues.

what has happened is your formed a network between your daughters laptop so acting as one connection to the net instead of two

best thing to do is when you sign in remove the tick from remeber me on this pc

or block the daughters laptop from accessing your pc in your network sharing

It doesn't matter how many people use the PC, if your daughter ticked the box that says "Remember Me" when she signed in on that PC then every time Hotmail is opened it will go straight in.

The way to avoid this in future is to not let the browser remember the login credentials, and make sure she actually hits the sign out button.

Alternatively, if each user of the main PC has their own dedicated login profile then you won't get to see each others browsing habits and they can then let the browser remember the credentials if they wish.

The box says, 'Remember my password' (I've just checked). She doesn't tick this, she doesn't want her Mum reading her emails. :D

MSN are also allowing multiple logins so that you can still have a chat window in your browser while surfing and have msn messenger running in the background, so that all messages can be seen across platform. The way to stop it is to make sure save password is not on and also in setting untick allow multiple logins.

This was a new feature with the lastest msn, problem is if you are using the older msn it goes all screwy. thats MS forcing people to update to the later version.

Sounds like she accidently ticked remember me that time, when she used your computer, or she was signed in very recently on your computer and didn't sign out before going to use the other computer, if she didn't sign out then the session will remain for a short period of time.
