Value of Milk Tokens

Am I right in thinking that milk tokens have a specific value?? Every time I use them, I get a different amount. I have just used one in Tesco, value of 2 x 4 pints £2.22, they deducted £2.22. But I have used them in Asda before and got more than the milk was.
If I go armed with the correct value then I can argue with the poor, helpless cashier

It is not supposed to have a value, as different shops charge different amounts, it is for 7 pints of milk at whatever the cost, however some supermarkets give you the value of 7 times 1 pints, making it more than 2 time 4 pints, etc etc0

some supermarkets have a specific value they deduct, some just add up how much the milk cost.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0

I remember that when I worked at Sainsburys a few years ago, we had a sticker on the till dictating how much a token was worth. Don't know why they can't all decide on a system and stick to it
And will this all change when the tokens change to include veg?? Or is that a different thing altogether??0 -
I havent a clue, i didnt know they were going to be used for fruit and veg too, thats good.
I work now so dont get milk tokens, but mine used to go to waste anyway as we no where near use 7 pints a week.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
hi, they have introduced the fruit and veg plus milk in cornall and these are worth £2.80 .
Tesco (last time i had tokens) used to take off £2.80 for a token for 7 pints.
The formula tokens never used to have a value but they will have on the new system i think its £5 something.
hope that helps MM xxBad mother to 2!

Does the back of the token not say that it entitles you to seven pints of milk? Therefore the value should be 7 x current price of a single pint.
I have had this argument several times with Sainsbury's and Tesco and they have all agreed with this. So if a single pint is 30p, the token value will be 7x0.30 = £2.10 (even if you buy two 4pint bottle at £1 each - you get 10p off the rest of your shopping.0 -
yeah it's different in different shops because they charge different prices for milk. asda work it out by adding together the price of 7 pint cartons of milk = £2.30, so you might get a 1-pinter and a 6-pinter and this will be cheaper but you will still get £2.30 off your milk. Bear in mind though, if you get more expensive milk (eg cravendale) you don't get more money off.:A I love MSE!!! :A0

I think it changes next month (and also only children under 4, as we'll drop next month as my 4 year old won't qualify)
A lot of places seem to be changing for the exact amount0 -
Milk tokens are replace by Healthy Start vouchers on the 27th November nationwide.
