What to Buy From America?

oops! this should be on the Greenfingers forum or Oldmoneysaving one - can a mod. move this for me pls? many thanks!

DD is going to Florida (Jacksonville) at Easter and had asked me what to buy for me. I didn't really know, but it would be nice to get a couple of foodstuffs i'd always wanted to try out, and then something garden-related. Is it possible to bring seed packets back, I wonder? If not, I've asked her to go to a garden centre (if there is one near where she's staying) and pick up some seed catalogues. I have thought of going on Amazon.com and get some stuff shipped to her hotel/or friend's address, as i know that Amazon has so much more choice than our UK site. Obviously, it's going to be gardening-related. any ideas peeps?

  • Wrong forum.
Be careful of duty, that could still make thing very expensive.
I can't see Amazon shipping to a Hotel room, can you???
  • Amazon will ship to wherever you tell them to, and it would be to her friend c/o the hotel I imagine, and that happens alot...

I think you'll have to do research online to see what seeds are acceptable to take, you don't want her getting in trouble at customs! The foodstuffs you'll have to look up too to see if they are acceptable. We've brought all kinds of food back and forth and it's always been fine, but I'm sure there are some things you can't take.

    You sure????
What about fraud??? It's not rocket science, someone could steal a CC and order loads of stuff to be delivered to another Country and to a Hotel room. The Scammer takes delivery and flooks off. Ummmmm what ya think?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I also think your Credit Cards fraud dept may have something to say about that.
  • will you be allowed seeds?
and will they even grow here, we have a very different climate., hence they have very different plants

food items, things like sweets etc will be fine, but be warned their chocolate is horrible,
    its waxy tasteless horrid stuffs

anyone going to america usually takes advantage of the lower prices in clothing & branded footwear etc
but make sure they take the labels off so they dont look like brand new things

Rootbeer, half and half (the marshmallow/chocolate spread) and.. yeah the chocolate is terrible.

I always draw a blank apart from that. Most of the really good food comes from specific places, like pizzarias and you can't take it back.

And unless there is something specific you have a taste for, most of their supermarket food is overpriced.

And I think you'll have trouble importing seeds this way. If there is a non-native plant you want that you can't get over here, there could well be a reason. In fact, if it's anything organic, unless it's vaccuum sealed, you'll probably have serious difficulty.

Levi jeans, sketchers trainers, craft/ scrapbooking materials. Wallmart are great, as are the dollar stores. Lots of garden ornaments etc. Wallmart have huge garden sections.
