My husband left our marital home last December, i went for help at job centre plus and was placed on income support of £27 per week. I also get £78 child tax credit each week, and child benefit of £28 a week. I recently gave up my part time job (10 hours per week) due to child care problems, my daughters are both pre-school age and had intended to be a full time mum to them at least until they start school.this week when i notified income support that i no longer worked, they re assessed my claim and have told me i'm no longer entitled to income support because i now get £70 per week child maintainance from my ex husband.
I am paying £320 per month mortgage, which is still in joint names because i dont have the means to buy my husband out. this leves me with approx £95 per week to pay all my remaining bills,(gas, electric, water, tv licence, insurance, phone, car, groceries not to mention clothing and footwear for 2 rapidly growin children ) which amount to more than what i have coming in! Can anyone advise me of anything i can claim towards our living costs.

            Income support mortgage interest
If you took out your mortgage after 2 October 1995, payments normally won't start until 39 weeks after you claim. How ever, you may get payments sooner if:- you got your mortgage before 2 October 1995
- you are a carer and the person you look after is eligible for certain benefits
- you are a single parent whose partner has died or left
- you are an offender and are waiting for a trial or sentence
- your have mortgage protection insurance but it won't pay because of a medical condition you already had when you took out the insurance
- your mortgage replaces a previous mortgage on the same property, which was taken out with the same lender on or before 2 October 1995

is the child maintenance order a legal or voluntary contribution? is your husband helping with the cost of the mortgage if it is still jointly owned???I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0

I think it is only IS and JSA claimants that can claim this, if you are now longer getting IS due to income from other means there isnt alot you can do, unless hubby refuses your CSA payments, but even then when you back on IS its a nine month wait for help0

Carrie if your ex has given you £20 less maintenace you would have had a top up of IS which would have entitled you to other benefits, but at the moment it seems that you are in a pickle
If you have a joint mortgage with your ex then it is down to him to pay the mortgage aswell, he might not afford to be able to do it, but if you stopped paying they would go straight to him for the money, have a chat with him and ask for a little extra to help you out 0 0

Carrie does your ex pay you maintenance direct? Or through the CSA? Has he been assessed to pay by the CSA?0

income support notified the csa of our situation, and they contacted my ex and informed him on the basis of his earnings he should be paying £68 per week child support. he then set up a standing order of £70 per week into my bank account.0

If he is paying you direct then the the CSA cannot chase him for any payments in other words if he pays you direct of £40 a week unless it is handed back over to the CSA by you then they cannot do anything, its all a bit of a farce but my ex was only paying me half of what he was assessed to do and CSA said they could not do anything whilst i accepted payments direct from him, they would not do anything unless i handed it back over to them, worth thinking about ex dropping his paymentscarrie34 wrote:income support notified the csa of our situation, and they contacted my ex and informed him on the basis of his earnings he should be paying £68 per week child support. he then set up a standing order of £70 per week into my bank account.
This is a major problem since the CTC took over paying for the children and income support only paying for the parent, a smaller amount that can easily be covered by there ex's maintenance payments0
