Terribly tortuous telephone calls

Minimum pain maximum results wanted.
Am registered with TPS,also for silent calls, but still having probs with companies who use automated systems to pick out your telephone number (from "abroad" koolmobile you know i mean you).

Is there a company who can deal with loopholes like calls from abroad who tell you their name but their number isnt left other than 0000000)

Is there a company who can deal with companies who bypass TPS by claiming to be marketing,or are automated (grey area? keep it simple in your replies-its complicated enough already)

Just like the peaceful life, koolmobile have rung me 30 times plus, most annoyingly at 8pm at night-private time.

if i change my phone company (pipex Homecall- grr) who is better at controlling this?

Have tried every technique with koolmobile but problem is, if they dont take your number off their data base what can you do?

My Oh is just at stage of getting abusive with them,(koolmobile)

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........................................................help

Every sympathy (easy for me to say, I only get such things once in a blue moon).

If (and only if) it's the case that it's 'the computer' that has done the dialling and they have no idea who you are, why not make up a name and address and order 2 or 3 of whatever it is they're selling?

When it reaches the credit card stage, slip into the conversation that, as an undischarged bankrupt, you're not allowed such things so could they just send an invoice with the goods so you could pay the delivery driver in cash?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

i have had a similar problem too. When i moved in the OH the phone rang 20-30 times a day with people trying to sell us stuff.

I registered with teh TPS and stopped answering the phone. Calls are now limited to about 3-4 times a week, which is better. I never let my details be used by a company for marketing material - even companies i consider reputable as they do sometimes pass on/sell details.

i would also suggest that you get a caller display phone and screen your calls. My parents had problems with a phantom caller a couple of years ago and BT gave them one for free and they now only answer a call if it is from a number they recognise. If it is important someone will leave a message and you can call them back.

r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this response :p
  • Also consider 'choose to refuse' from BT where numbers can be blocked.
