Cooperative Home Insurance - feel let down

I have a policy with Cooperative and in Nov I called to inform them I was changing bank. They said the dd would not be in place in time soni paid Nov and Dec installments by debit card.

They sent a letter dated 3 Dec acknowledging a change to my policy. It suddenly dawned on me today that I've not seen the dd leave my account. I called them and was informed that as I've not paid since Dec, they cancelled my policy back then. They confirmed that due to an error they'd not sent me any letters about this.

They would not let me pay today to bring account up to date and said I would have to do new quote. I was so angered I told them to forget it.

Tonight I went through another provider as was panicked at being uninsured. However, as there has been a gap I've lost no claims bonus and had to declare a cancelled policy. I've got a 14 day cooling off period on new policy.

I decided to call coop back and they acknowledged it was all their fault and said their accounts dept would look into it and consider reinstating policy.

I'm so angry but also relieved no disaster has happened since I've been uninsured for two months. What if they don't reinstate? I'll be penalised forever for a cancelled policy.
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time

I would say that you don't need to declare the cancelled policy as it was their mistake - at worst you would just need to call any future providers and explain the situation. Best to see if you can get something in writing from Co-op achnowleging.

Probably best to go back though co-op and get it re-instated or at least re-started afresh now - if the price has gone up (which is probably has) make a formal complaint (politiely though) and ask them to match the origional price.
  • Im going through pretty much the same thing with them right now! They are absolutely hopeless. Let me down 6 times so far  Trying to get through to someone who has any power to do anything is like trying to scrape through a brick wall with your bare hands.

We were driving around in our family car for about a week non the wiser that we were not insured. They should be shut down ASAP.

And they still think they are going to sell me a new policy after all of this lol It's a joke
