So Happy

Hi,

We decided last week that we would get married next year & booked the date in Rhodes. My OH formally proposed on Monday night with red roses which are lovely:D

We have been going to Pefkos Rhodes for the last five years & love it, so have booked to get married at St Paul's Bay in Lindos, on 10th September 2012 I can't wait:j

We are working with a great wedding planner out there, she is wondeful we have only done the booking form so far but she has been wonderful & has answered all the questions we have bombarded her with. They will be meeting up with us in the UK in the winter to do a lot of the planning so looking forward to that. We have a good idea of what we want, the wedding is at 4.15pm which is a bit early than we wanted as we don't want to be at the restaurant until about 7pm, so think we will have a boat cruise after the service & looks like we will have to have drinks somewhere before we go to the restaurant as it will still be early.

We have not yet told people that we are marrying in Rhodes yet, i'm going to my parents this wekend & will show them then. I know they will love it & will obviously come with us, but not sure yet how many other family & friends we get. Hopefully as we are giving them plenty of notice they will save up & come.

Just starting to look at dressess seen a lovely Maggie one designed for abroad, but only have about £300 for a dress so guess that's out.

Anyway thats me, looking forward to chatting with you all & keeping up with your plans too:D

  • Congrats!
And as for only having £300 for a dress - that's just a challenge for the MSE ladies to find the dress you want for the price you want :)

Congratulations fawny! And we are venue twins! We are getting married on 12 September this year, at St Pauls. We are using Lindos Weddings organisers - you? Twirlypinky is also getting married there in June I think, or July.

If you have any questions about the process and about Lindos, I don't claim to be an expert, but if I can help I will.

As for £300 for a dress, I think that will be plenty for a dress for getting married somewhere hot! They call them Destination dresses and they tend to be lighter and less detailed, therefore cheaper, than regular wedding dresses.

Congratulations again and enjoy all your planning! x

  • Congratulations - its great that you have your venue sorted so quickly, and that its somewhere you both love. Good luck with the dress - if you look around I'm sure you'll get one within budget especially if you look at the sales.

Congratulations and enjoy the dress hunting!
  • Hi,

Thanks all, yes so excited. Looking forward to sitting down with the wedding planners & sorting stuff out. I've got myself a big book & keep writing things in it as soon as I think of things & ideas. Just started to design save the dates with Vista(saw that on here:D) so hopefully get some offers soon.

Joho - yes we are working with Karen at Lindos Weddings too, she has been great so far. We are in Rhodes this year when you get married so might see you:wave: Thanks for the tips on the dresses, i've spotted a few now so I keep making notes. That's what I though about the budget as I don't want anything to heavy, got to pack it too:eek:

Twirly - thanks for for that, i'm sure some questions will come up & I can't wait to hear how your wedding goes & Joho too:D

    Thanks Folks

Well had a great weekend with my parents, told them where we were getting married & they were really happy. My Dad has been so excited all weekend about it & they have said they will give us some money towards it & also buy me my dress:D I was not expecting this so i'm really happy, we will still do it MSE as much as possibe but means I can now look at the Maggie destination dresses, which I had discounted because of price. I need a dress that will be cool as marrying in Lindos, some of the Maggie destination ones look lovely, i'm assuming they are designed with wedding abroad in mind, or am I misunderstanding it?

Asked my best friend to be bridesmaid & she said they will hopfully come, but they are trying for a baby so depends on what happens with that, as will be too hot in Rhodes for a little one, which is fair enough, we have made the decision to wed abroad & have to accept there may only be a few of us.

I know someone who got married abroad. She spoke to the airline and was allowed to take her dress as carry-on. Had it in a dress bag and took it on board and put it in the overhead compartment. She didn't want to pack it in the hold!

Ah lovely! Nice when people are pleased and accepting of your decision to go abroad. You might be surprised at how many people you get out there! We are expecting 50!

And, yes, I understand destination dresses to be designed for weddings abroad, in the heat. The ones I looked at were all lighter, floatier and slightly less formal. Packing shouldn't be a problem - most bridal shops or seamstresses should be able to help you or give you tips.

If you are around St Pauls at 5.20Pm on Monday 12th - watch out for me, and Karen too! I'll be the one crying!!
