    Hi,
I am in the process of transferring to british gas and they have given me the following tariffs to choose from
Websaver 10 but has cancellation fees
online saver 3 with energysmart and no cancellation fees.
4% discounted tracker with energysmart but has cancellation fees.

Websaver 10 comes out the cheapest by around £30 but the sales rep is telling me i would be able to save more if i went on one of the other plans with energysmart. I already have an electricity monitor so what else would energysmart give to enable me to make the savings?
When i looked into the 4% tracker it appears to be just the same plan as the online saver 3 except the tracker has the cancellation fee.

Well I have decided next monday I'll change to websaver 10 and not online saver 3 as I reckon the energysmart is just a clever marketing tool and a con. How they lay out the quotes it seemed to suggest to me that there was £150 extra savings with energy smart, although when you look into it there is nothing of the sort. £45 of this is against the standard tariff (which they don't state clearly in the online saver 3 without energy smart price) and the rest is down to you using less when you notice how much your using. Maybe I'm stupid but it should have been laid out clearly as the following

    websaver 10 £870
online saver 3 £820 (which includes £45 less than standard tariff)
online saver 3 with energysmart (as above but extra £110 due to better usage tools)

    AND NOT

    websaver 10 £870
    online saver 3 £820
online saver 3 with energy smart - upto £150 saving
  • I'm sorry for the delay in replying to your email.

I confirm that, your WebSaver 5 tariff is coming to end on 28 February 2011. There is no cancellation fees for WebSaver 5 tariff.

I'm delighted to inform you that, we have newly launched WebSaver 10 Tariff. If you opt for this you’ll receive a minimum 6% discount against our standard prices (increased prices) and that’s guaranteed until 29 February 2012. That means you'll be paying 6% less than our increased standard price.

    Benefits of WebSaver 10 Tariff:
    1. 6% below standard energy.
    2. WebSaver 10 provides the customer with a guaranteed 6% discount on the British Gas Standard tariff rates for gas and electricity credit customers throughout the period of the contract.
    3. Only available to customers paying by Direct Debit.
    4. Customers can manage their accounts online and can view bills online i.e. Paperless billing is mandatory.

So to know more about this tariff or apply, please check our WebSaver 10 tariff online. Please go through the terms and conditions for this tariff that are available online. Alternatively you can also reply back to my email and I'll do the needful.

However; I would suggest you to stay on WebSaver 5 tariff till it ends, as this will be beneficial for you. However; once your WebSaver 5 tariff end on 28 February 2011, you can apply for our WebSaver 10 tariff.

As you've informed that, you've energy monitor, you can keep an eye on your consumption on daily basis.

Thank you for contacting British Gas.
  • I just went into British Gas site to switch from Websaver 5 to Websaver 10 and found that it is no longer available. However - instead they have introduced Websaver 11, which is an even cheaper deal than 10. For me, the extra saving works out at £103 per year, and over £200 per year compared with Online Saver 3. I'm glad now that I delayed switching until the last minute before Websaver 5 expires.

I slipped up amd changed to WS10 a few dayts ago. However, I 'phoned them this morning and they have changed me to WS11. No doubt the story won't end there as there will be some confusion between human and computer :)
