Switching - help!
I think I'm probably being a bit stupid, but here goes...
(I don't usually have any trouble switching my gas & electricity, I do it semi-regularly)
I got a letter from EDF today saying they were putting me on their standard tariff next month as my online saver v5 one has ended.
I assume that's not going to be a favourable rate so have been straight on the comparison sites.
Every quote comes out as considerably more expensive than not switching. Is this because I'm putting in my current tariff as online saver v5?
Would I be better off putting in 'Standard' instead? I won't switch of course if EDF are still cheapest for me as I have quite liked their service, but I struggle to believe I won't be better off elsewhere than on their standard.

Yes, by putting in Online Saver 5 you are comparing to a tariff you will not be on from next month. (It does however indicate how much more you will be paying from next month!)
Put in the tariff you will be switching from i.e. the Standard as that will be the tariff you will be on if you do nothing. Hopefully you'll find a cheaper supplier/tariff to switch to"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Brilliant thank you! Just tried it and quite an eye-opener how much more it'll be!0

I've just tried this aswell as I'm on online saver version 5. Fortunately with the cheapest plan per uswitch I'll only be paying £8 more a year! (~2%). I might stick with EDF on online saver version 8 as that's apparently only £10 more a year.
I don't think it matters what you put in for the comparison, it'll still show you what'll you be paying on those tariffs. Just look how far down the list EDF's standard tariff comesExcuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0
