gas installation quotes

I recently phoned BG for a quote on installing a gas pipline and a meter which they returned with the value of £609.33. I'm aware it's SGN that install the gas pipeline for BG therefore I also applied for a quote directly from SGN online which came to £520.00. Can I get a gas meter installed for less than £89.33 or should I pay £609.33? Cheers :)

    Hmmm... the difference in the two prices appears to be very close to 17.5%, the former VAT rate. Coincidence?

    Leave it all to SGN. That will be who BG get to do it anyway.

    SGN should leave you with a meter connected and purged I would have though.
  • The SGN price of £520 is tax included but on their quote it states;

    New supply
    Lay a new 32mm LP service from the main in the foot path to a surface mounted meter box to be sited
    to the right hand side of the front door. As per site survey.
    SGN to undertake all excavation and reinstatement.
    Please contact your gas supplier for a relevant gas meter.
    SGN to supply and fit a surface mounted meter box.

    If SGN left me with a meter connected then I would be able to get gas for free as I wouldn't have a supplier? Hmm seems like the best way to go is to pay the BG £602 as I would be guarenteed a meter also.

    I would question why you want BG to supply your gas. Plenty more out there who give better service and are cheaper.
