Care for the elderly-Newspapers today.

Daily Mail Front page Hospitals use trespass laws to prevent elderly bed blocking. Aparently some hospitals are now using the trespass laws to remove elderly patients by giving them 48hours to vacate beds. This seems like one government funded organisation declaring war on another and using the elderly and infirm as a weapon.

Times page 21 great cartoon commenting on Health Ombudsmans recent report on care for the elderly.

  • 'Care' for the elderly is non-existent in this country, and we can't even blame the current government!
14 months ago my father had a stroke, and following a initial period of good care at a specialist stroke unit, the care he received from then on (in hospital) was abysmal!
The whole set-up was all so wrong for recovering stroke victims, the fall rates amongst the patients were really high (though many falls went unrecorded!). The food was dreadful! The ward was dangerously under-staffed, the staff there was ALL took their breaks at the same time, the communication and care was minimal, and the staff blatantly didn't give a fig.
Unfortunately most nursing homes aren't much better! (even the really pricey ones!)(

I agree with the abysmal care, seems it is all our fault for not dropping off the perch earlier :D
