Pricing of fuel
Just been to put fuel in my car & the garage I used had no fuel prices anywhere, only when I started to fill the car up did the price appear (£1.46 p/ltr).
Heard a while back that this was illegal & you were within your rights to refuse to pay if the prices were not clearly placed prior to filling up.
Anyone got any idea's on this one:mad:??
Cheers

Did the price appear when you lifted the pump or after pumping?
If when you lifted pump then no as they have stated price if after then it should really have been queried with the staff.0 -
There's a garage near my work where the price is set at 32p a litre as there's not enough room to put the £1 in front of it, wonder if you could argue the toss after you filled up?

I think it is a Trading Standards issue where no price's are shown. I don't think you are entitled to drive away without paying after filling up, and if you are in any doubt of the price you should ask BEFORE filling up.
A filling station close to me wouldn't switch on the digitalised sign outside their premises, and were fined I think £1000.
What I would do is phone TS and see what they say. Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -

Where did you hear this?
The price would be displayed as soon as you selected the nozzle so you had the option of not filling up.
Yeah as long as its at point of sale its ok, you are able to put the nozzel back into the pump and drive off (providing you have not dispensed any fuel)
It's the price at point of sale and not the advertising outside that you go on although most are all automated now I believe they are allowed reasonable time to change the big ones at the entrance.
Price on the pump is what you pay, nothing else!0 -
I think at one pound forty-six pence per litre is a good reason why they don't advertise their prices. That's twenty-three pence per litre more than I paid yesterday. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

I did ask about this once and the large price displays garages use are by convention, there's nothing in law that requires them.
As you say, once you've lifted the pump the price is displayed, so you had opportunity you not purchase any fuel then.
Personally I wouldn't buy from anywhere which didn't display their prices, as you can be pretty 100% sure they'll be massively inflated!0
