rant - ebay sellers

Really pee'd off and need to rant.
Two parcels delivered this week from different ebay sellers; the first, on Monday, contained a skirt that was a different size to the listing. Just opened a 'new' packet of tights, delivered today to find them laddered and inexpertly repaired with red cotton stitching.
I actually have to take time off work to go to the post office to send the damned things back, no guarantee that I am going to get refunded the whole amount either (including return postage). When I used to sell small value stuff on ebay I used to refund, no questions asked if I had made a mistake, for fear of bad feedback and just cos I'm a nice person.

grrr

    1) contact sellers and see if you can resolve amicably
    2) read this: http://letters.auctionbytes.com/cgi-bin/blog/blog.pl?/pl/2010/10/1286981648.html

    1) of course I've contacted the sellers, of course they are sorry and will refund my money, once I have taken an hour off work to go to the post office to send the items back to them. I am pee'd off cos THEY have made STUPID errors which inconvenience me

    2) ebay only get involved in 'unusual circumstances', don't think it would be interested in my £2.99 tights!

  • I gave up on ebay because of similar problems, illegal copies of dvds, goods sold as brand new but were obviously used, etc. Plus all the scammers of course, and paypal are no help at all. Lots of stuff can be bought in shops for less than what they are listed for on ebay. The inconvenience you're experiencing outweighs any advantage. I have to say I am well rid to be honest.

I meant specifically with regard to payment of the return postage.

Apparently if you win a claim for a SNAD (substantially not as described) made through ebay it is a fairly new unwritten policy that they now issue you a shipping label and charge it to the seller's account. No need for unusual circumstances.

And I agree, sellers that balls up their descriptions are a pain in the proverbial.

where did you get this from? as a buyer has always had to pay to have an item returned before hand

You've obviously never bought anything from me!! I pride myself on my awesome care for buyers - postcards sent in brand new board-backed envelopes, all sent recorded delivery, detailed descriptions, I rock ;-)

nah, 'recorded delivery' is just hateful - once again, a trip to the post office to collect an item that could have just been put through my letterbox

  • I purchased an item, cost me 99p with 3.50 delivery. Item rec'd was not as described and really stank disgusting, plus wasn't made from the material listed. she said she'd refund 99p if I returned it but not p&p, so (i'm sure it did not cost 3.50 to post) potentially it would cost me 7 quid to get 99p return?! I binned said item.

  • I would just return in an envelope, with no postage.
As I understand it, when the item reaches the destination, the postman will know on their door & request not only the right amount of postage, but also the fee for processing it!
