ADSL filter problem/home network

We have recently switched from wifi via a Belkin router and Tesco Broadband to the combined Tesco broadband/home phone package and a Thomson TG580 router for wifi (provided by Tesco).
We have a number of telephone sockets in the house that were put in when the house was built and also one that was put in (by BT) about 8 years ago in the room with the computer (study).
We previously had
1)an ADSL filter (Speedtouch) in the main active socket (lounge) that had phone/Sky box in the phone side and nothing in the modem side.
2) ADSL filter (again, Speedtouch) connecting router to phone socket in the study.
We have now changed over the router and ADSL filter in the study with the computer and find that whenever a filter (either old Speedtouch or replacement Tesco) is put in any of the other telephone sockets in the house, the broadband connection is lost.
Tesco are going to send out more filters to try, but is this likely to be the cause? We are currently unable to have the Sky HD+ box connected to a phone line, which may be a problem (red button, downloading updates?)
On a separate note, the Tesco booklet says that the router should work wirelessly, but currently will not work without the ethernet connection to the computer. May, or may not be relevant?
Any helpful advice much appreciated.

Its not a good idea to run your router via an extension.
Do you get the same problem iif you connect the router to your master socket, and plug micro filters into the other used phone sockets?
If you really want to use the extension socket then, you should remove the 'bell' wire from the extension.
To do this unscrew the faceplate from your master socket and carefully remove any wires connected to pin 3 on the back of the faceplate.
You should find the extension now works.
Some helpful stuff here.

PS. Sky deliver software upgrades via the satellite. Box office movie booking is done via the modem.
PPS The router is wireless but is your PC?That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Why not just use your old kit and put in the login details for Tesco broadband?0

Good point, I approve of the KISS approach.:D
I think OP put the new router on an extension whereas the old one was at the master socket. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
The new router is connected in the same way, to the same socket, to the same computer as previously. The router has changed as has the ADSL filters. It is when a filter is put into any other socket in the house that the broadband is lost.0

Most people don't keep their Sky HD box connected to the phoneline; although it's a stated requirement from Sky, it's never enforced unless you have Sky Multiroom.poppy100 -

2nd thing: use the old router also
any adsl router should be capable of connecting to your new supply, and the setup has prooven to work so ...
is there any reason you really want to use the new one??0 -

We seem to have solved the problem by:
- plugging the router in to the main BT socket
- getting a dongle for the desktop to work wirelessly
Have learned that:- the combined Tesco home phone/broadband is on ADSL2+ and it's a bit temperamental. The old tesco broadband was ADSL only and didn't seem to be affected by being plugged into an extension.
- Tesco.mail.net is absolutely appalling. A really basic mail program. You can't use Outlook to send outgoing mail with the combined home phone/broadband, and whilst they tell you this, it would be enough for me to not bother signing up for it.

They are putting prices up too on 14 June so we will use this to get out of the contract penalty free.0
