he's got windows xp ... is on supanet.com dial up with a bt line.

what's the easiest way he can stop "pop-ups" ??

    IE, tools, popup blocker, or if you are talking about messenger popups, goto https://www.windowsupdate.com and install sp2 (if you don't have it, it's probably better to get a cover CD with it on, it will take an age to download on dialup).

    A quick workaround is to disable the messenger service in start, run, services.msc (assuming XP)

    I have the MSN toolbar which has a pop up blocker, its blocked 732 so far !

    the pop-ups could be and indication of some sort of spyware infection, there is a sticky at the top of this section about Malware removal
