Tesco disappointing price increases

Having generally always used Tesco for grocery shopping, I am increasingly disappointed EVERY WEEK to find lots of items increase in price by not just a penny or two .. perle cat food was 37p a pouch 3 weeks ago, 50p a pouch 2 weeks ago and last week 53p ! how can they justify that ? we can stop the cat treats, if only it was just cat food, similar increases apply to everyday food items ..McVities jaffa cakes less than £1 for single pack and last week £1.34

  • You can expect most, if not all of the major retailers to follow suit.
Wheat has jumped 45pc this year after Russia suffered crop failure and banned exports.
Now knock-on rises are already in evidence in the US meat market, where experts are predicting further shortages and price increases to come.

Corn has also risen in the past few months by the highest amount for decades, and this will have a knock on effect on a very large percentage of foods.

How can they justify that ?

They don't have to - they are in the business of making money - not feeding the population of the UK on the cheap.

    Other shops are availalbe.

You'll find that all supermarket prices fluctuate, sometimes dramatically.

Perhaps a 'name and shame' thread in an appropriate forum where people can report unusually large increases would be a good idea.

Er, yes, that's what I meant when I said 'in an appropriate forum'.

All stores raise prices but Tesco are without doubt the worst for big rises overnight.

I used to buy a tin loaf which was 65p a few months ago, went in the next day and it was 80p and then soon after that it was 120p!

I've stopped buying fuel there too as it is always a few pence more than ASDA/Morrisons and they cut the points to 1point every £2 spent.

I rarely use Tesco now, they are a joke.
