Just bought a new laptop and forgot to move my Ipod music & stuff from the old one (now not possible) so need to start again with my Ipod Nano - does anyone have a clue what I need to do?

It depends whether you want the music that's on your ipod or not.
If you do then there are many 3rd party applications that can connect to your iPod and retrieve the music. I do not believe this is in agreement with your warranty however I have used it in the past on a friends iPod.
If you do not care about the music on it then simply open iTunes and connect your iPod, it will recognise it and say it's registered to a different PC and will give you the option to tie it to the new PC, if you choose yes the iPod will be wiped and synced with any music etc on the new pc........if there is anything?

Change your settings on windows explorer to 'show hidden files'
You will now see an extra folder (cant remember what it is, but it is obvious) when you 'open' the Ipod on windows.
In there you will find a bunch of music folders, copy them to a nice safe folder on your new PC.
Start I tunes (with Ipod disconnected) then drag the files across to I tunes from teh NEW folder.
Itunes will sort them out and all your music will be on your local Itunes.
I am not sure how this method handles Itunes purchased items, but everything else is fine.0 -

Won't iTunes open automatically when the iPod is connected, and try to Sync an empty library to the iPod?0 -
Ahh, you have 'Start Itunes when this IPOD is connect' ticked dont you

Ok, from the start
Have you registered this ipod on the Itunes that is now on your new laptop? If not, you should be given a pop up about registering this ipod before the sync starts. Say No for now
sorry, going from memory, no Itunes in front of me and no 'unregistered' ipod to check with.
The other option is to do teh copying on another machine to a portable drive or USB stick.
As an aside, I would recomend changing the setting on Itunes to remove auto start on start up, when connecting the ipod and to manually manage music. The first 2 because they hammer the computer, and manually mange the music so you can keep everything tidy on your ipod without having to delete things you may want to go back to later off of Itunes.
we have 4 ipods in our house and only 1 'dirty' computer for Itunes - manually managing content stops me from having Justin Bieber on mine!0 -
There's plenty of specialised iTunes/iPod/Apple forums out there - a google for
"restoring itunes library from ipod"
"transferring ipod to itunes"
and variations should find a few.....0 -
There is a manual way to do it, but if you are not technical then i won't tell you.
