..............Last night I had a door step visit from a certain high street bank, who I believe from other threads have been called C**pWest.
For once I had the power to know my rights and deal with it, and thats all down the this wonderful site:money:.
I have two accounts with C**pWest, a step and a current account, I had written to C**pWest a while back to cancel the Current account as I really didn't see any difference in the two accounts (for me anyway), they wouldn't give me an overdraft and I never used the cheque book. However this was during the time that I was doing my ostrich impression of burying my head in the sand and I never realised that the account was still active and it had charges on it due to some monthly advantage thing being taken out, which made the account OD. Anyway back in September time last year I phoned them and got the advantage thing ( I don't even know what its called) stopped and the lady I spoke to said she would get someone to phone me to discuss a way forward. I was more than happy with that and waited for the phone call, which never came. So I continued to pay a sum every month into the account, but then by the time they took their charges the amount kept going up.
Before Xmas they wrote saying they could, if wanted, use the money from my other account to clear the debt, so I got my salary transferred into my husbands account, and still I paid them every month. Speaking to one of the staff in branch they said they may do it or they may not, but I wasn't going to run that risk as I have heard so many storys on this site.
Anyway back to last night, the guy knocked and hubby answered, he asked to see Miss JoS1972, hubby said 'who are you?' and he said he's from C**pWest, Hubby said (god love) 'well Miss JoS1972 is my 11 year old daughter what do you want with her?', I feel I must add at this time hubby is 6ft3 and built like an outhouse :rotfl:, man changed his mind and asked for Mrs JoS1972, so I dutifully leave my Chicken curry dinner  and go to the door to speak to him, 'I'm here to make a phone call between you and C**pWest' he says. 'Oh about time I've been waiting since September' I reply. At this point he starts dialing the number 'Well I'm not speaking to them now I'm eating my dinner' :T god that felt good, this time last year I would of panicked and been a right mess. 'Well when then?' (he wasn't impressed) 'Erm (probably a little too cocky) between 12 & 2 tomorrow will be good' I gave him my number and away he went.
I'm not worried about them ringing in fact I'm looking forward to the fight that I'm bound to have with them, and again its all down to everyone on this site :j.
So to Martin, all on the MSE team and to all of you who take the time to read and advise people, I thank you.

For once I did. Now I've just had a thought, if they don't phone before 2 then clearly I'm not going to speak to them, do the OFt rule apply to them if I request that they cease any further doorstep visits without making an appointment first? Don't get me wrong I will speak to them but it will be on my terms not theirs.Don't Judge anyone until you've walked a mile in their shoes......Proud to be dealing with my debts - LBM 29/07/2010 = Debt at LBM £8,412.93[STRIKE]£5267.50[/STRIKE] £3740.84 left, dealing with it one day at a time and no longer alone.

Hang on a minute - banks actually come to your door and then make a phone call so you can speak to them?!?! Why??? That makes no sense. If you're going to take the time and cost to send someone to the door of your customers, wouldn't you make sure they have the authority to deal with the issue / sell you new products, whatever it is they're trying to do, instead of having them just dial a call centre? That makes no sense at all.
Are you 100% sure it was actually someone from the bank and not someone trying to get your account details from you?0 -
Well either way he didn't get any information from me, and so far no phone call from the bank so who knows Climbgirl, I wouldn't have a clue of my account details anyway so he'd have looked pretty stupid. I'd still like to know if he knocks again can i tell him to !!!!!! off as he's not made an appointment?Don't Judge anyone until you've walked a mile in their shoes......Proud to be dealing with my debts - LBM 29/07/2010 = Debt at LBM £8,412.93[STRIKE]£5267.50[/STRIKE] £3740.84 left

Yeah, definitely tell them to go away. You're under no obligation to speak to anybody who knocks on your door like that.
I would be instantly suspicious of anyone who knocked on my door and claimed to be a bank. I've never heard of banks doing unsolicited home visits at all and it screams scam to me.
Maybe not, who knows. But I'd give them nothing at all. If you're a customer and they really are a bank, they should have all your contact numbers anyway.
If my bank rings me I always tell them I'm hanging up and calling them back on the number I have for their call centre. There's no way at all of knowing if it's a scammer or the actual bank.0 -
JoS, i'm lost as to what your elated about, was it that the guy who came to your house was going to ask you to pay more to nat west?If its just that you told someone to go away, well good for you i would have told him to naff off as well.Owed out = lots. :cool:0

My happiness is due to the fact that for once I felt in control of the situation, if someone had knocked on my door before I had found this site I would have signed and agreed to anything even if I couldn't afford it.
Until MSE came into my life I didn't know that I could tell someone to naff off and only deal with me in writing, thats all.:)Don't Judge anyone until you've walked a mile in their shoes......Proud to be dealing with my debts - LBM 29/07/2010 = Debt at LBM £8,412.93[STRIKE]£5267.50[/STRIKE] £3740.84 left, dealing with it one day at a time and no longer alone.

Youd have signed anything? -
If you were my neighbour this site would have been suggested to you long ago, as well as telling someone to naff being suggested to you for anything
Glad you finally know what to doOwed out = lots. :cool:0 -
Just a thought, I'm wondering if your bank has passed anything over to a DCA ? If they have then this could be their way of getting the money from you. I just cant see that the bank would do doorstep visits. They can barely manage to open their doors for a whole day.0
