Hello,
Ive had a search but am unable to find a recipe for spag bol from scratch.
I know I'll need tinned toms, an onion and garlic but what else and how do I cook it?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Hi
i use the recipe from econonomy gastronomy, its delicious and cheap!
first you make a basic mince using mince beef, onions, dried herbs, chopped tomatoes, garlic, beef stock and worcester sauce (normal one pack of mince can then be split to make 3 meals)
then you cook the spag bol using celery, more garlic! red wine, beef stock and chopped tomatoes
im sure if you search for economy gastronomy recipe it will come up:)
this is soooooo cheap and my boys love it, far better than an sauce out of a jar!0 -

Ok, this is how we make it:
Chop onion, garlic and carrots or two, pepper. Brown onion and garlic, add the mince and brown it as well.
Add carrots, cook for a bit, add pepper and the tomatoes. Use herbs to flavour it, we always use loads or oregano, marjoram, etc. I call it - all the herbs that we have in our cupboard. I add a stock cube as well.
We like adding more vegetables to it as well, so we would always put some mushrooms, courgettes, maybe aubergine...
And then just let it cook on the low. You may want to cook it for a couple of hours to make sure that the mince is soft.
If you have a slow cooker, just bang all of these into one and leave to cook. I often cook mine whole day, and then set to cook through the night as well. And even my Italian OH, who hates slow cooker otherwise, agrees, that the bolognese this way tastes fantastic.
Oh, and I like adding a drop of ketchup in mine (when OH doesn't see, or just into my portion).Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
I add a bit of chopped bacon to mine while the meat is browning - somehow the pork fats and juices add to the flavour of the beef mince. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Another vote here for adding chopped bacon as well, just a couple of rashers really makes a difference.0
