Repairing credit history (sorry if in wrong place)

Hi Folks,

After reading some of the harrowing stories in the debt free wannabe section I didnt want to start a thread with "im debt free" - it didnt seem right. So I hope its ok posting this here.

Long story short, I managed to clear what I owed a few years back following some amazing advice from this website. Since then ive never had another penny of credit or debt, but its now causing a problem as I need to improve my credit history.

Trust me, the credit card lesson is well and truly learned, and even with two kids that were not yet born when I racked up the debt, we live far more sensibly and comfortably these days. My debt never got out of control, and monthly payments were always met. However recently when I tried to get a mobile phone contract it was refused.

Ive checked the online reports and they are pretty much perfect, im guessing the fact I have no credit is holding me back. I have read lots of conflicting advise, it seems I now need to get a credit card to generate a bit of recent history. Is that correct? If so, who is the easiest to get one from, as I was also knocked back on the amazon credit card a few months back (and that was with a view to rebuilding some history, im not trying to spend what I dont have)

If someone could please point me in the right direction I would be very grateful, I would prefer not to get credit cards but if thats the quickest and easiest solution then im in no doubt it would not turn into a problem.

Thanks in advance

Matt

Have you spoken to a professional financial planner? They should have a clear idea on how to build up your credit rating again since I am sure they have dealth with similar cases before.
