Electricity Prepayment - Interesting Error?

I recently switch eneryg supplyer from edf to e-on. upon receiveing my new e-on key I pluged in in th the meter and it wiped all of my credit (£40 worth EDF are refunding me so no problems there). My fault I should have read the letter!

So..... I pluged the key in again to use the emergency credit (£6)

The intresting bit is that now the meter has no tariff information. Screen F,I & K are set to 0 so although the meter is still running I am not being charged for the kWh's I have used.

Its been 4 days and I still have exactly £6 on the meter (lucky if that last me 2 days normaly)

My question is, would this be concidered a fault or are e-on being generious :o)

You thoughts would be good

It'll be a fault. YOu need to tell them or when they find out, as they do, they will estimate what you've used and put it on the meter as a debt. Better not to get into that situation I'd have thought.
  • The meter its self is till running though..... Why would they estimate my usage when it is still being loged?

Its just the machine is programed to take nothing for the standing charge and nothing per kWh.

It sounds like a problem with the programming of the key, rather than just resetting debt and setting E-on's tariff on the meter, it has set the tariff to £0.

    Hi dh010010,

It sounds like you may have been sent a blank key for your electricity meter and this is why the tariff details are all 0.

This will need to be corrected, it will be best to contact E.ON and speak to the pre-payment department to explain this.

They will be able to send you out a new key.

I am only speculating here as I can't see any details, so apologises if i'm on the wrong lines.

  • What will happen to the energy I have used uptill now? Will the new key account for this and deduct the amount I should have paid?

I think you are on the right lines Helena :o)

    Hi dh010010,

I have just had a word with the pre-payment department, they said that your new key should set the tariff on the meter correctly for the future.

The energy that you have used up to now with the tariff charging 0 will be calculated from the meter readings and the debt would be set on the meter to be collected weekly.

There is a small chance it may be a meter problem, not a key problem, but you will need to speak to the pre-payment people here first.

Hope this clears things up for you.
