Gas Central Heating - Pump always on

Hope I've got the right board for this, but about a year ago we had a new Gas Boiler fitted by a registered Corgi engineer, and part of the work they did was to re-site the Control Timer. We have Gas Central Heating and hot water is provided via Gas.
Since this time I've been aware that during the pre-selected times on the time-switch (0700 to 0830 and 1630 to 2100 Hrs), although the boiler is switching itself on and off as you would expect, the circulation pump at the Hot Water tank is always operating.
I seem to remember that the pump would go on and off as needed, during the pre-selected times on the time-switch, on our 'old' system.
Is there a 'Gas Techy' who can confirm if the pump should or shouldn't always be on? Like to know, before I go back to the Corgi engineer who did the work!!

It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

Hi "Grumpy_Old_Duffer"
The circulating pump should only run when either the hot water or central heating are calling for heat.
Check the settings of the boiler thermostat and hot water tank thermostat - the boiler 'stat should be set higher than the tank 'stat, if not, the tank 'stat is never satisfied and the pump will run continuously.0 -
mine is the same, i was told when we moved in its the type of central heating we have, i have stuided it and if the central heating thermostat clicks out so does the boiler so its not using any more power, except a little bit of electric !!

the pump stays on during the times you select on the timer for the heating. if you have a room stat, this will turn the pump and boiler off during those times if the house is warm enough. however, some boilers have a override stat which will run the pump for a short while after the stat has clicked off. the same applies for the hot water. if you pump is running when there is no call for heat from the timer or stats more than 10 mins or so, something is wrong with the wiring or boiler override stat. hope this helps.0
