Scotrail not accepting certain cards

Some of it may be down to the card issuer though and their security set up - in that its not their machine rejecting them as such, but Clydesdale declining transactions where there is a high chance of fraud. I know for example that my First Direct Visa card won't work in our council car park machines, and whilst I've never queried it (usually because the only time it crosses my mind is while I stand in the rain cursing and hunting for the backup card I keep for this kind of situation) I suspect its because its a nice easy way to test a nicked/cloned card before they go off and use it for bigger things. It might be worth attacking from the other end and asking Clydesdale why they keep rejecting your ticket purchases - it might be that if they know you are having a problem they can set the security better to allow it.Adventure before Dementia!0

I have used my card for YEARS, using it in all sorts of places, large car parks, small car park, supermarkets, abroad, small corner shops, online. I have NEVER been refused. If my card had been rejected before by other places, then yeah, I would accept your point.0 -
Come on, theres a difference between American Express and a high street banks maestro card!! Lots of places dont accept American Express, I wouldnt be moaning if I was being refused using an American Express card. Silly argument
The amount of effort you put into this is more than applying for another card online. I think you are just a whinger and doing it for attention.;)
Bye.:hello:0 -
Think of the effort you will have to go to, to get Scotrail to change their entire card system. Compared with the effort you'll have to go to to get a different type of card they will accept.0

As I said, just letting off steam, lol!
Another good way to let off steam is to write a snotty letter to Scotrail, it's a freepost address so it will cost them money for a change, word it well and you might get* a rail voucher in the return letter.

*long odds about 100/1 but it won't cost the OP anything in trying.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

It won't change, and no matter what I do, writing letters etc. It wont change. Whats wrong with me saying like it is? Sorry guys, didnt think it would be a problem saying how I feel, i'll bottle it up next time.....
But all I can say, I am not the only one with this problem, a lot of folk have this problem. So its not just the case of one person (me) having to change their bank card, its hundreds, or maybe thousands of people that would need to...0 -

I only see one person moaning.
Thousands on people with the same problem, that's one big train. Is anyone actually paying on a card?:rotfl:0 -

Well on my train, the other week the ticket guy said a lot of cards he has tried to process have been declined, so thats one train, times that by how many hundred trains run every day? Whats you point caller, I thought you left anyway, lol! You must love my moaning if your coming back for more
I see people moaning about it every day. Just because you dont have to mix with everyday scum like us getting chauffered around in your rolls royce, hehe0 -
How about changing your cards for ones that they will accept?
Not very helpful.
If they advertise the visa and mastercard logo then they should accept all valid visa and mastercard cards unless the card issuer has declined an authorisation.
I expect that their merchant agreement obliges them to accept all valid cards and would not allow them to reject cards just because the machines don't work.
If the machines don't work, you should insist that they revert to the fallback method, normally a carbonated handwritten imprint form, possibly accompanied by a verbal telephone authorisation code. Then put in a complaint to head office about the delay.
Forcing them to do this will concentrate their minds on getting their IT systems up to scratch! We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

The earth does not belong to us.
